As the Director of Architecture at Rakuten Viber, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technological landscape of one of the world’s most prominent messaging and calling platforms on a journey to dominate as a ‘super app’ .

You will lead a team of talented architects in designing, developing, and implementing robust and scalable software solutions. This position requires a strategic thinker with exceptional technical acumen, strong leadership skills, and a passion for innovation.

Viber operates in a fully cloud-native environment, leveraging state-of-the-art cloud technologies. As the Director of Architecture, you will wield significant influence and responsibility over a global-scale service distributed across multiple cloud platforms, spanning thousands of servers worldwide and generating petabytes of data. Responsibilities

• Architectural Leadership: Lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance, and reliable software architectures that align with Rakuten Viber’s business goals and technological vision.
• Technical Excellence: Provide technical oversight and guidance to ensure the successful implementation of architectural designs and solutions.
• Platform Engineering: Lead the design and implementation of scalable and resilient platform architectures leveraging technologies such as Kubernetes (K8s), Docker, and other containerization and orchestration tools. Ensure compatibility and optimization for a multi-cloud environment.
• Team Management: Manage and mentor a team of architects, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
• Technology Strategy: Be a part of building the company’s strategy and drive the development and execution of technology strategies and roadmaps that support Rakuten Viber’s long-term objectives.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between architectural decisions and product requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve existing architectures, processes, and systems to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Operations at Scale: Oversee the operations at a global scale, ensuring seamless performance, reliability, and availability across multiple cloud platforms. Implement cost-effective strategies and optimizations to maximize resource utilization and minimize operational expenses.
• Industry Trends: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and leverage this knowledge to drive innovation and maintain Rakuten Viber’s competitive edge.

Requirements

• 2+ years in a senior leadership role (CTO | R&D group manager | Chief Architect | Director of Architecture)
• 5+ years as a solutions/system/cloud/enterprise architect
• 8+ years experience in software development
• Extensive experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, containerization, and modern development practices.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically, drive innovation, and solve complex technical challenges.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
• Experience working in an agile development environment.
